Ray McLain's Intro to Whitewater Kayaking ~ Level I ~ Register Now!
Try us again next season! Classes will soon be announced for May-September 2012

This class is designed for the person who has always wanted to try whitewater kayaking. A 2.5 hour introduction to whitewater kayaking instruction class begins with complete gear outfitting and basic safety instruction, and continues with instruction of paddling techniques, ferrying, peel ins/outs. Morning and Afternoon classes offered.

  • To secure the instructor(s) for the basic whitewater class, participants must register in advance by filling out the form to allow our partners, Bear Paw and whitecap, know how many instructors to bring.
  • Cost of the class is $40 plus an ACA membership membership option starting at just $5. See Registration form for ACA membership information.
  • Classes will begin by fitting students for gear and boats. The instructor will begin the class on flat water and progress to the whitewater course for training in basic whitewater paddling.

Morning (am) sessions are from 9am to 12 noon and will be filled first. An afternoon (pm) session will likely be added from 1pm to 4pm each day. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your session.

  • This very popular course series means that sessions fill up quickly so register early for them.
  • Note your height and weight on registration forms so appropriate gear and boats can be selected.
  • No refunds within 30 days of the training.

Ray McLain's Intro to Kayaking ~ Level II ~ Register Now!

Prerequisite: Ray's Level I or previous whitewater kayaking experience including ferries and eddy turns on class I whitewater.

In this 2.5 hour clinic we will introduce* and teach the roll in a step by step progression. Rolling your kayak will give you confidence in your paddling! Following rolling technique we will expand on techniques learned in the Level I course through practice in Class II current and you will learn the basics of river running, reading the current, and safety techniques.

  • To secure the instructor(s) for the basic whitewater class, participants must register in advance by filling out the form to allow our partner, Bear Paw, know how many instructors to bring.
  • Cost of the class is $40 plus an ACA membership, option starting at just $5. See registration forms for ACA membership information.
  • Classes will begin with boat and gear outfitting.
  • Morning (am) sessions begin at 9am and afternoon sessions at 1pm. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your session.
  • Note your height and weight on registration forms so appropriate gear and boats can be selected.
  • No refunds within 30 days of the training.

* Please note: Learning to roll takes time, patience, and is tiring. After you learn the basics in this course you will have the tools to be able to practice with a partner on your own, however for the majority of paddlers even the most experienced, it is unlikely you will successfully complete a roll on every attempt after this lesson.
