What Takes Place at the Midwest Freestyle Championships?
Well, a Freestyle Kayaking Competition. But that's not all!

The event also offers a competitive Boatercross (See video to the right) Competitors begin in heats and the top one from each heat races in the finals. Bragged about as the Best Boatercross Course of any event in the country by Colin Kemp. We pride ourselves in this fun competition that allows anyone to participate in the weekend's activities.

The TEAM EVENT is unique to Wausau as well, where 3 paddlers have 2 minutes to rack up points by throwing tricks in the hole. Every team has their own strategy some have 2 people in the hole at the same time while others take turns. The competition is really all about style and fun with some teams throwing paddles, shooting squirt guns, party surfing, and more!

Come out and enjoy the show as paddlers of all levels from beginner to expert show off their tricks in one of the hydraulic features on our river. Professional Boaters Colin Kemp and John McConville from Jackson Kayak return to duke it out against the best of the Midwest for the title of Midwest Freestyle Champion. From Loops (flips), to cartwheels, spins, and split-wheels you're in for a great show!

Where to find us: Located along the eastern channel of the Wisconsin River in Downtown Wausau, Wisconsin. You can easily access all of the activity by turning right onto River Drive after crossing over the Washington St. Bridge as you enter Downtown.
