Vision Statement:
Wausau Kayak/Canoe Corporation exists to be an educational resource to whitewater kayak and canoe enthusiasts, and to provide a premier venue for paddle sport related activities in local communities and internationally.
Mission Statement:
Our goal is to set the standard in quality paddle sport educational activities for individuals, families, and business while exemplifying community goodwill, diversity, and service through our network of volunteers, sponsors, participants, and citizens.
Strategy:
We aid participants and spectators in accomplishing their recreational and educational needs by coordinating and implementing local, national, and international clinics, training, and competitive events, and we provide funding options to maintain state of the art site developments, international communication, streamlined safety measures, and an excellent long-standing reputation.
History:
In 1974, a group of individuals realized the potential for a race course on the east channel of the Wisconsin River in downtown Wausau. During the first thirteen years, the river channel itself was the primary focus of the work in bringing races to Wausau. The course has been developed, modified, and improved resulting in what is now "one of the nation’s best slalom courses".
The Wausau course hosts competitors from around the world. The diverse skill levels of Olympic medalists, United States Kayak & Canoe Team members, up and coming Junior team athletes, and local paddlers can be equally challenged by our course.
With whitewater slalom again in the Olympics (2004, Athens), our future is bright. We continue to bring new events to the Wausau area, enhance the river front, and be a strong presence in the sport of Kayak & Canoe, not only in Wisconsin but the nation.
We Welcome the World to Wausau and also take Wausau to the World in a way no other area organization can.
